The development described everywhere else is not a private project running in parallel across billions of separate people; it is one process, and the difficulties of a whole era are part of it. That reframes the state of the world from a catalogue of failures into a stage.
How we become humane. The practical counterpart, and the most concrete section in the talk. Not humane as a disposition you decide to adopt, but as a capacity that gets built — through experience of consequence, through the development of feeling alongside intelligence, and through the transformation described in the role of darkness.

The talk closes on prayer, which is the first appearance of a subject the channel returns to at length afterwards.
